Event Report

The 3rd Editor’s Café of the Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE) was held on November 21, 2016 at Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamabad, Pakistan and attended by 72 participants including the ACSE members, Journal Editors and experts of Scholarly Publishing Community of Pakistan.

In a fervent keynote address, Prof. Dr. Anwar ul Hassan Gillani as a Vice President of ACSE welcomes the whole Pakistani Scientific community for their participation and interest. Following this Prof. Dr. Anwar Ul Hassan Gillani as Chairman of Pakistan Council of Science and Technology (PCST), delivered a short lecture on the Role of Pakistan Council of Science & Technology in promoting Science, Technology and Innovation in Pakistan. Next, Miss Alina Goheer, Trainer of AMS Central, delivered a lecture on Current Status of Scientific and Academic Journal in Pakistan: Status and Challenges sharing her own training experience.

ext the discovery session has been conducted under supervision of panelist, Prof. Dr. Anwar Ul Hassan Gillani, Dr. Ata Ullah Shah and Dr. S. Sarwar Alam on Core issues facing scholarly communication industry of Pakistan, following the keynote lecture of Prof. Zabta Khan Shinwari, the Secretary General of Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) delivered an informative talk on From Impact Factor to Impact: Open Science, Open access and Inclusive Society. Continuing this another discovery session was been conducted on How we can strengthen a creative, collaborative approach to disseminating the results, Improving data visualization and accessibility with expert panelist Prof. Dr. Shafqat farooq e Azam, Prof. Dr. Ataullah Shah, Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari and Dr. S. Sarwar Alam

Considering the current status of Pakistani Publishing society Miss Maryam Sayab representative of Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE), delivered a valuable talk on Managing Journals in a Global Context

The Program was continued with last discover session focusing on Can Standard Operating Procedure be helpful for developing a global scientific Journals? in which all the attendees put suggestions using their expertise and experiences with panelists Prof. Dr. Shafqat Farooq e Azam, Prof Dr. Attaullah Shah and Dr. S. Sarwar Alam.

The event was accomplished on recommendations and concluding remarks from expert panelists of the whole program.

The 2nd Editor’s Café of ACSE was truly an informative and productive event as the attendee’s participation was interactive and energetic during all the discussions specially. The one day prime event stimulated discussion and healthy debates on topic relevant to improvement of Pakistani journals and Pakistani Publishing Society
